COMMUNITY JOBS FOR YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS
We are updating CWCA records for teens/college students interested in helping neighbors and earning some extra cash. Residents are often looking for students to baby-sit, dog walk/pet-sit, check on the house (feed fish/cats, get mail/newspapers), remove snow and perform lawn services (mowing lawn, raking leaves). To be included in the Community Services list, please complete and submit the YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS COMMUNITY SERVICES SIGN-UP SHEET. The Young Entrepreneurs Contact List will be included in the back of the CWCA Directory that is revised and distributed to all residents each November. Additionally, for any updates throughout the year (after Directory is distributed), residents may contact Lisa MacArthur to receive the latest list or to add new students to the list. Please note: This information will be made available to CWCA residents only.
TRASH REMOVAL
The county trash collection office (703-802-3322) has provisions for special pickups of brush or bulky items. A household in our community is entitled to four free pickups a year of bulky household items or brush. Each special pickup must be less than 6 cubic yards in volume. For special pickups of brush, limbs must be cut to six-foot lengths and no limb may be more than six inches in diameter. For more than four pickups a year or for a pickup exceeding the size limit of 6 cubic yards (about the size of a Volkswagen beetle), you may call and request a "MegaBulk" collection, for which you will have to pay. More information is given on the county web site.
LEAF REMOVAL:
Vacuum leaf collection from curbs is provided by the County three times each season to most, but not all, of the homes in Chesterbrook Woods. It is provided to those residents who sign-up in advance and live on a street where other residents have also signed up. Unlike Snow Removal which CWCA manages through a private contractor, leaf removal is not covered with the annual CWCA Dues. Residents pay for leaf removal with an addition to their real estate tax, at the rate of one cent for each $100 of their property's assessed value. Thus, a house/lot assessed at $800,000 would pay $80/year. To sign-up for leaf removal or find out more, contact Fairfax’s Dept. of Public Works & Environmental Services at 703.802.3322 or http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/dpwes/leaf/.
